The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually by NAA to recognize professionals who exemplify long-term excellence in national service and accomplishments to the rental housing industry and the National Apartment Association.

Jay Lopeman, Vice President of Strategic Accounts – InterSolutions

“I’ve spent nearly 30 years in the multifamily industry, and it has truly been a cornerstone of my life. Much of my time has been devoted to serving at the local, state, and national apartment association levels. That work, combined with years of advocacy on behalf of property owners, operators, association leaders, and supplier partners, has shaped who I am as a leader. The relationships I’ve built through respect, trust, and a willingness to show up have been the foundation of any success I’ve had in this industry.”

We’ve connected with Jay to talk about the award, his journey in the multifamily industry, and what continues to drive his passion for leadership and excellence. We are honored to have such an inspiring leader on our team, and we couldn’t wait to hear more about what this recognition means to him:

What does winning the Lifetime Achievement Award mean to you personally and professionally?

This recognition means more than I can fully express. It reflects not only my own journey but the many people, teams, and organizations that have supported and challenged me along the way. The rental housing community has been more than a workplace. It has been a place where I’ve grown, learned, and built friendships that feel like family. Professionally, it’s an incredible honor. Personally, it’s deeply meaningful.

Why do you think this award is meaningful within our industry?

This award represents the highest honor a supplier partner can receive, which makes it incredibly special. It also speaks volumes about the National Apartment Association’s commitment to recognizing the full scope of contributions across our industry. Suppliers play a critical role, and NAA elevates that work by giving us a platform to collaborate, serve, and make a lasting impact alongside our property management partners.

What do you enjoy most about your role at InterSolutions?

There are many things I love about my role at InterSolutions, but it always comes back to the people. I enjoy working with our internal teams and our client partners, and I find a lot of meaning in solving some of their toughest staffing challenges. It’s also incredibly rewarding to help our associates find work, and in many cases, discover a long-term career in this industry. Seeing someone get their start never gets old.

What excites you most about working in the multifamily industry?

I’ve always appreciated that this is, at its core, a relationship-driven industry. We provide housing for millions of people, and that comes with real responsibility and purpose. As a supplier partner, working together with our clients to help create safe and stable communities is something I take seriously. Beyond that, this industry offers endless opportunities. You truly get back whatever you put into it, and that keeps me motivated.

Who or what inspires you in your work?

My family inspires me first. Their support has made everything possible. I’m also inspired by the people in this industry, especially the newer members who are just beginning to find their path. Mentorship has always been important to me because I remember the leaders who guided me early in my career. Their influence shaped my journey, and I want to pay that forward. Helping others succeed is one of the most fulfilling parts of what we do.

What advice would you give to others hoping to grow as leaders in this field?

My advice is simple: get involved. Volunteer with your local, state, or national apartment association. Join a task force or committee. Show up and stay committed. Be present, contribute, and learn from the people around you. Our associations are filled with talented individuals who care deeply about advancing our industry. Being part of that community can shape your career in powerful ways.

Thank you for taking the time to meet with us, Jay, and congratulations on this incredible accomplishment!
