Staying Healthy at Work – What Keeps Your Body Feeling Great Every Day

Is staying healthy one of your top priorities? When you take care of your body, you are better equipped to tackle the day and accomplish all you set out to. Here are some actions you can take to continue feeling great throughout the day.

Stretching

Stretching improves circulation, helps you relax, and prepares your muscles for a busy day. It also lengthens your muscles and reduces your risk for injuries and discomfort. After you wake up, stretch your arms as far as you can. Lay on your back and hug your knees to your chest. While in that position, stretch out your arms, then lower your knees to one side, still bent. Gently turn your neck in the opposite direction. Bring your knees back, then lower them to the other side. Throughout the day, raise your hands above your head and intertwine your fingers. Keep your palms facing the ceiling. Simultaneously push back your shoulders and stretch your arms up as if trying to reach the ceiling.

Eating Healthy Foods

Research shows that eating breakfast means you typically consume fewer calories throughout the day. You gain energy, increase stamina, and concentrate better. Rather than eating waffles, muffins, sugary cereals, or other high-calorie, high-fat foods, opt for eggs, cheese, whole grain bread, oatmeal, unsweetened low-fat yogurt, fresh fruit, or muesli with fruit and nuts. Incorporate vegetables into every meal. Eat healthy fats such as avocados, fish, and butter. Drink water throughout the day.

Being Outside

Walking outside and negotiating sidewalks, puddles, pedestrian crossings, and other inclines gives you a much healthier workout than walking on a treadmill. Breathing in fresh air cleans out your lungs and reduces your risk of getting sick. Being in sunshine stimulates production of serotonin to improve your mood. It also provides vitamin D to lower your risk for diabetes, heart disease, depression, multiple sclerosis, and bone disorders.

Sitting Up Straight

Sitting up straight reduces the risk of back pain. Using a lumbar support pillow that is secured to your chair ensures proper support for your lower back to prevent slumping. Ensuring your desk and chair are at the right height keeps your shoulders relaxed and maintains the natural curve of your spine to avoid discomfort.

Walking Tall

Because the force of gravity is evenly distributed, you put less strain on your muscles, ligaments, and joints. Since you breathe correctly, your blood circulation and digestion improve.
